Wednesdays are quickly becoming the most delicious day to
come to the drop-in! Thanks to a Community 101 grant awarded by the students at
McNary High School, HOME is been able to increase our nutrition by adding more
fruits and vegetables to lunch, snack and dinner. Every Wednesday several youth
and one staff member head down to the
Wednesday Farmer’s market (located on Chemeketa St in downtown Salem) to buy
produce. The youth are largely in charge of deciding which kind of fruit and
veggies are bought, how much of each and are currently even tracking all the
purchases and handling the money. It has been such a great project and all of
the berries and other fresh produce are wildly popular at the drop-in. With the
Community 101 grant we will be able to extend the fruits and veggies budget to
last all the way through the winter. Here are some pictures of our recent eats!
